Retro Gaming Reviews

 I mostly collect just games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and I have always loved them since the late 1980s when my parents got me a Nintendo for Christmas (my mom got me one in 1988 and my dad got me one the year before).   I am going to play through as, at least get as far as I can, all of the games in my NES collection, and I am going to share them with you here, with my thoughts and feelings on the games, what does and doesn't work.   Also please don't ask me to play anything newer than PS3, because at this point I have no desire to get a newer game system than a PS3, and the majority of my gaming is either Final Fantasy games or games on the NES.

A Quiet Place 2 (2021)   in 2018, I watched A Quiet Place in the theater with my best friend, and I was really impressed, it was one of the best modern horror films that I have seen.  So, I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the sequel, and in March of 2020, I was going to see it, but the release date got postponed because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, which closed down cinemas throughout the country.  So now that the cinemas are reopening, my wait to see A Quiet Place Part 2 finally came to an end!   The wait was totally worth it, this is a must see film that should not be passed up, and deserves to be seen in the cinema on the big screen. A Quiet Place Part 2 was written, directed, starred in, and co-produced by John Krasinski.  The other producers of the film featured big names like Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.  The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures, and premiered in New York City on March 8 2020, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic did not see a full theatr

Pete's Dragon (1977)

  Pete's Dragon (1977) The beautiful bold coastline of Maine with it's cliffs and lighthouses, and quaint fishing villages has long been an inspiration for the settings of films.  Though Pete's Dragon never outright states that it is set in Maine, there are plenty of hints that Maine is the setting for this musical adventure film.  The first hint is the name of the fictional town that the film is set in, Passamaquoddy, which is the name of a tribe of natives that inhabited North Eastern Maine, and New Brunswick, which is how the real life locations of Passamaquoddy Bay, and West Quoddy Lighthouse/State Park got their names.   So knowing that this film takes place in a small fishing village on the coast of Maine, and the village is named Passamaquoddy, and that there is a lighthouse located near this small fishing village would give hints to the real life location of this fictional village where young Pete and his dragon friend Elliot found their home.  As I was researching

The Raven (1963)

  The Raven (1963) Roger Corman with writer Richard Matheson return again in 1963 with another film in the Corman-Poe Cycle, this time with The Raven.   The Raven is a light hearted horror comedy with an all-star cast featuring Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, and a young Jack Nicholson.   The film is inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe poem of the same name, and tells the story of  Dr. Craven who can't get over the death of his wife, encounters a speaking raven who is the magician Dr. Bedlo, who was turned into a raven by Dr. Craven's father's enemy Dr. Scarabus.  Dr. Craven then finds out that his wife, Lenore, or her spirit anway is with Dr. Scarabus so he and Dr. Bedlo along with Dr. Craven's daughter Estelle, and Dr. Bedlo's son Rexford set off to confront Dr Scarabus.   This film never tries to take itself too seriously, and the fun and comedy run riot throughout.  But can Dr. Craven find out the truth about what happened to his love, Lenore?
