Lobster and Steak Dinner with Mushrooms in a Chardonnay Sauce, and a side of Garlic Asparagus (Tuna Steak for my Roommate)

Lobster and Steak Dinner with Mushrooms in a Chardonnay Sauce and Garlic Asparagus (Tuna Steak For My Roommate) I have been craving a nice lobster and steak dinner, so I decided last night would be the night that I made myself one.   But I knew my roommate isn't a big lobster or steak fan, so I asked them what they would prefer, figuring that they would ask for crab legs, but they opted for either Tuna or Swordfish, which ever was looking more fresh that day.  So I stopped into my local supermarket and picked up a NY Strip steak, and stopped into my work on my day off to pick up a Soft Shell "Quarter" Lobster, and the yellowfin tuna was looking exceptionally great, so picked up my roommate a nice sized tuna steak.    I get that some of you are from away and might not know lobster terminology so I will break it down for you.   When buying a lobster, you have options, one for the size, the sizes are Chix (1-1.24lb), Quarter (1.25-1.45lb), Half (1.5-1.74), and Select (1.75l

The Tommyknockers

The Tommyknockers "Late last night, and the night before Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers knocking on my door I want to go out, don't know if I can 'Cause I'm so afraid of the Tommyknocker man" The Tommyknockers is a television miniseries, aired on ABC, in May of 1993, and is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.  The film and the book are set in the small town of Haven Maine, though due to the fact that the film had to be filmed in the winter for its release date, and the book is set in the summer, they were forced to find a location that looked somewhat similar to Maine in the southern hemisphere, and chose to film in New Zealand, which because filming in New Zealand was still kind of a new thing, unlike today, there were a lot of expensive difficulties involved in the filming of the show.  The miniseries was directed by John Power, with a screenplay written by Lawrence D Cohen, and was approved by Stephen King.  The film starred Jimmy Smits as Jim Gar

Linguini with Scallops and Shrimp

Linguini with Scallops and Shrimp Last night I brought home some lemons, and scallops home from work (I work at a seafood market in Portland ME), and I wanted to make a nice dinner for my roommate and I, so I decided, what could be better than a linguini with scallops and shrimp.   When I originally decided I wanted to do pasta I was thinking of doing a Linguini with Shrimp Scampi (which as my roommate pointed out is a redundant name, as Scampi is a term meaning shrimp, so Shrimp Scampi is literally Shrimp Shrimp), but as I was working yesterday I started thinking about ways to make the simple dinner even better, because my roommate and I had reason to celebrate yesterday, so why not go all out and make it special. so I decided on Linguini with Scallops and Shrimp. Ingredients: Scallops (just over 1/2 lb) Shrimp (about 3/4 of a lb) Linguini Asparagus Parsley (fresh) Juice of 1 Lemon 1 Shallot 5 Cloves of Garlic Multi Coloured Cherry Tomatoes Capers (about a 1 tbs with juice) Chardonna

Breakfast Shrimp Crustini

Breakfast Shrimp  Crostini So yesterday morning, I woke up early and wanted to make breakfast before I went to work.  Not sure what I wanted I just started looking through the refrigerator.  I found some shrimp, some asparagus, mushrooms, fresh eggs from my roommate's hens, and I had bought a baguette from my work the day before.  So I looked at the ingredients and decided that a simple shrimp crostini sounded fun. Ingredients: Baguette Slices 1 shrimp per baguette slice 4 stalks of asparagus cut into bite size pieces 2 eggs 5 med sized mushrooms chopped Olive Oil Dried Parsley (fresh works too if you have it) 5 cloves of garlic minced garlic powder 1 small shallot minced Juice of 1/2 lemon Chardonnay Sea Salt Recipe: 1. in a pan heat enough olive oil to cover the bottom of the pan over a med heat and add sea salt 2. add the garlic and shallot to the pan and cook until aromatic, stirring frequently 3. squeeze in lemon juice (remove seeds if any fall into your pan), and let those fl

The Last Unicorn

The Last Unicorn, released in 1982, is an animated film based on the 1968 novel of the same name by Peter S. Beagle, who also wrote the screenplay for the film.  The film was directed and produced by Rankin/Bass, who were famous for their work on films such as The Hobbit, Return Of The King, Frosty The Snowman, and others.   Beagle however was not a fan of Rankin/Bass, and is said to have been disappointed when he found out that they would be doing the film, though in time he grudgingly admitted that they did well on the film and that it was a "bloody classic".   Beagle had previously written the script for Ralph Bakshi's Lord Of The Rings as well, giving this film many ties to the animated Tolkien films.   Much of the animation for the film was done by Top Craft in Japan, Top Craft would also be used by Hayao Miyazaki for his film Nausicaa Valley Of The Winds, and the core animators along with Miyazaki would form Studio Ghibli, which would go on to make some of the mos

The Time Machine 1960 and 2002

The Time Machine (1960) The Time Machine was released in 1960, directed by George Pal, and starred Rod Taylor as George the time traveler; Alan Young as George's friend David Filby, and also as his son James Filby in the future; and Yvette Mimieux as Weena one of the Eloi from the future.  The film also features the voice of Paul Frees as the voice of the Rings.   The Time Machine was released by MGM, on a budget of around $829,000 and made about $2.6 million in the box office.  Though the film was met with mixed reviews.  Based on the popular 1895 novella by H.G. Wells, this film is about a man named George who theorizes that people can move in the 4th dimension, being the dimension of time.  His friends and collogues think that he is crazy, and that movement in time is impossible.   George though is tired of wars killing peoples, and hopes that by going into the future he can find a time when mankind has gotten beyond wars.   He goes from New Years Eve in 1899, at the dawning of

My Favourite Horror Movies by Decade

Image
I recently watched a video with James and Mike from Cinnemassacre, where they discussed their favourite horror films from each decade, from 1920's-2010's, and I started thinking what my own list would look like.   Some of my picks align with them, especially James as it seems he and I have very similar tastes in films.   Like them, the list would change obviously depending on my mood of the day, but I feel that these are the films that are pretty consistently on my top horror film lists.   Keep in mind that if your favourite horror film from each decade isn't on my list, that doesn't mean I don't love that film, and in some decades it was very hard to pick my top choice of the many to choose from.   I will choose two from each decade, and in some decades will include a couple that were honorable mentions, and depending on my mood of the day might even make the actual list.  1920's: The 1920's were not the first decade of horror films, as horror films have a
